SAFE is run by 3 officers, Bob Hersh, Jody Capp and Kay Campbell. All are animal lovers and are committed to helping improve the quality of animal care in the desert. Bob Hersh owns and operates Furrst and Furrmost Pooch Palace, an open boarding pet resort. He has 8 dogs of his own, all rescued. He lives at the facility and is the sole caregiver of the animals. Jody Capp is a registered nurse who has two rescued dogs and several horses who donates time as an officer. Kay Campbell has 7 of her own dogs, all rescued and is committed deeply to helping improve the quality of life for all animals and helps financially take care of the dogs. All officers are donating their services. No officer is paid any salary or expenses of any kind. $100.00 is charged by Furrst and Furrmost Pooch Palace for rent, utilities, phone, office supplies and indirect overhead charges. SAEF pays for direct costs such as governmental fees, legal and professional fees, advertising costs specifically relating to SAEF, food, veterinary bills, collars and tags. Bob Hersh as the sole caregiver has the dream of doing full time rescue work instead of boarding dogs for a living. However, he is not financially independent and depends upon Furrst and Furrmost to make a living. If SAEF had enough of a capital base to earn interest to pay Bob Hersh a salary commensurate with his income from Furrst and Furrmost, then he could stop boarding and turn Furrst and Furrmost into a a full time rescue. A base of about $3,170,000 would be sufficient. Approximately $170,000 would be used to pay off the mortgage on Furrst and Furrmost's facility. The remainder of funds would be invested in long term CD's which would be used to pay all SAEF's expenses and a gross salary of $50,000 to Bob Hersh. The following is a budget for SAEF given the above scenario:
